Project: NEETs

Duration: 14 months

Start Date: 01.06.2024

End Date: 31.08.2025

The latest available Eurostat statistics on youth aged 15-29 show an overall decline in the EU of young people who are neither in education, employment, nor training (NEETs), but the percentages remain higher than in any other age group. Among the most affected countries are Romania, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, and Cyprus.

The above study also highlights that health status is a barrier to access education, employment, and training, according to more experienced professionals working with such youth. Most young people with health problems, who are the target group of NARU, lack skills for independent living and motivation to find work.

Youth workers from partner organizations report great difficulty in motivating NEET youth to live independently, maintain a household, seek employment, manage their own budget, etc., but the main challenges stem from the mindset of the young people and their lack of desire to live alone. It is even harder for youth with health problems who face additional external difficulties and prejudices.

Therefore, we plan to focus on building the competencies of 25 youth workers annually to support NEET youth in their transition to independent living.

The needs addressed by the project relate to difficulties in implementing effective training and professional inclusion plans for NEET youth.

The main long-term outcome of our proposal is improved employment/education prospects for NEET youth through enhancing the capacity of youth workers and staff/members of at least 5 European NGOs from 5 different countries annually over 3 years.

NEET youth will be motivated to seek employment or engage in the educational process.

The proposed training approach is empowering-that is, the opinions of the youth are respected at every stage of planning and implementation.

Youth workers will enhance their competencies to encourage youth to seek employment or participate in education and/or training. They will meet colleagues and exchange experiences.

Participating organizations will gain access to innovative working methods that they can integrate into their daily practice.
