We present to you the blog of NARU volunteers, where they share their impressions and experiences from working with our organization. The project, 2022-1-BG01-ESC51-VTJ-000080491, under the European Solidarity Corps programme, started in 2022, and the volunteers are working with us throughout this year, continuing into early 2024.
Each volunteer spends 6 months in the organization and participates in activities across five key areas:
• Participation in a summer school for children with special educational needs, supported by mentoring;
• Office work;
• Work in schools under the supervision of a resource teacher;
• Youth work;
• Engagement in intercultural dialogue – through meetings with people from different countries, cultural evenings, sightseeing, and attending events.
The project activities are carried out in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The aim is to help volunteers build skills in areas such as:
• Teamwork – maintaining a work schedule, task completion, being proactive, finding common ground, and coordinating activities;
• Independent living – managing utility payments, shopping, cooking, budgeting, and more;
• Working in a digital environment – through sharing updates on the volunteer blog and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GTSOLB, and using tools like Canva, AdminProject, and others;
• Working with children and young people from various vulnerable groups;
• Sustainable behavior – living with awareness of diminishing resources;
• Improved life planning – goal-setting and personal development planning;
• Employment readiness, including through entrepreneurship.
