On December 6, 2021, a new sensory room for therapy of children with special educational needs was officially opened at the Regional Center for Support of the Inclusive Education Process – Vratsa.

Director Galina Statkova shared that since 2017, the Center has operated a well-equipped room for psychomotor and occupational therapy, but the growing number of children in need of therapeutic support led to the opening of a second room. The room has been equipped with funds from the institution’s budget.

Sensory therapy stimulates the senses and helps children focus on specific sensory input. It supports physical and mental development, improves mood, language and speech development, fine motor skills, and reduces fear, while giving children the opportunity to relax in a carefully designed environment.

The therapy is free of charge for children with special needs from the region and is conducted by two qualified occupational therapists.

The event was attended by Ms. Loreta Koleva – Head of the Regional Education Office in Vratsa, Ms. Petya Dolapchieva – Deputy Mayor of Vratsa Municipality, Mr. Kaloyan Damyanov – Director of the Regional Center – Sofia City, Ms. Iliyana Yaninska – Director of the Center for Special Educational Support “Dr. Petar Beron” – Vratsa, and resource specialists.
