The SELsMINE project presents its first result: the development of an evidence-based Guide for Developing Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Skills through Minecraft. The guide outlines a theoretical concept and provides directions for teachers, enabling them to integrate SEL skills development into early-stage education using a Minecraft environment. To ensure the validity of the preliminary research, a survey was conducted among teachers to analyze the most effective ways Minecraft can support the promotion of SEL skills.

Once the most suitable methodologies were identified, SEL skills were transcribed into Minecraft’s gameplay structure and features, allowing for the conceptualization of the environment. The guide introduces various SEL competencies that form the basis for game scenarios in the Minecraft world.

Teachers can use the digital tools they prefer to enhance social-emotional learning efforts and integrate SEL into digital education. The presentation of this first result from the SELsMINE project is an important step towards achieving its goals and promises to be a valuable resource for teachers wishing to incorporate SEL skills into their teaching.

The project is managed by six European partners: DANMAR Computers, Asserted Knowledge – AKNOW, ATERMON, Digicult, NART – National Association of Resource Teachers, and University of Valladolid – UVa.
